Process of Design Evolution in Glass Lamps and Lanterns of the early Islamic Period

Abstract
This essay studies on the creation and evolution of two of the
most applicable lighting devices- glass lamps and lanternsof
the early Islamic period in Iran. In this research we tend to
either consider the logical connection between these devices
or show how to study the other devices.
Although there is clear distinction between glass lamps and
lanterns of the early Islamic period, but there is also a subtle
connection between their concepts of design. Therefore we
can presume the glass lamps as a strong sketch of lanterns
design. In other word we can say that the design concept
of lanterns is derived from early glass lamps of Islamic
period.
