One of the oldest and most significant calligraphy resources is the the Serat Al-Sotur of Sultan Ali Mashhady (1515 AD) which all its chapters are entirely endowed with spiritual aspects from beginning to the end of the booklet. This research is conducted with the aim of theoretical explanation of three fundamental aspects in this booklet i.e. “spiritual accomplishment and honor of calligraphy, pen and practice”. Using the descriptive- analytical method, this paper tries to answer the question that whether it is possible to find a way to attain principles of modern artistic instructions by using the spiritual and pictorial teachings of this booklet? It is attempted to study the influence of religious teachings on the progression of this honorable art through examination and explanation of this precious booklet. In conclusion, achievement of this paper is the emphasis of Sultan Ali on catharsis by pen & opinion training in calligraphy which is achieved by the spiritual way of the masters and elders, and eventually the human being becomes the pen of God himself, and as the pen is the “virtuous instrument of calligraphy”, the man becomes the virtuous instrument of God. رسائل خوشنویسی برجای‌مانده از استادان خوشنویس در تاریخ این هنر شریف ـ ضمن گزارش دقیق از چگونگی ساخت ابزار و مواد، آموزش و مراحل آن ـ گنجینه‌ای از معارف معنوی است که سالک این طریق هنر می‌بایست گام به گام رعایت کند تا هنر خوشنویسی با قابلیت تحریر کلام الله ظهور یابد. یکی از مهم‌ترین و قدیم‌ترین منابع خوشنویسی رسالۀ صراط‌السطور سلطانعلی مشهدی (920 ق) است که از همان آغاز تا پایان رساله، سایۀ وجوه معنوی بر همۀ فصول و فروع آن حاکم است. این مقاله با هدف تبیین نظری سه وجه اساسی و مورد نظر در رسالۀ مذبور یعنی «شرافت و فضیلت معنوی خوشنویسی، قلم و مشق» انجام شده و به روش توصیفی-تحلیلی، سعی در یافتن پاسخی نظری برای این سؤال است که آیا با بهره‌گیری از آموزه‌های صوری و معنوی این رساله می‌توان راهی برای شناخت موازین آموزش‌های جدید هنری یافت؟ با بررسی و مداقه در این رسالۀ نفیس و شرح و بسط اجمالی آن، سعی شده تا چگونگی تأثیر آموزه‌های دینی بر شکل‌گیری این هنر شریف مورد مطالعه قرار گیرد. در نتیجه، دستاورد این مقاله را می‌توان تأکید سلطانعلی بر تطهیر نفس توسط مشق نظر و مشق قلم در خوشنویسی دانست که با استعانت از روش معنوی استادان و پیران این طریق حاصل شده و نهایتاً انسان خود قلم حق شده و همان‌گونه که قلم، «نیک اسباب خوشنویسی» است، انسان نیز نیک اسباب حق می‌شود. https://negareh.shahed.ac.ir/article_252_520fae524f4d1fa0ccc9dbd65841709c.pdf
